Real Beauty: Interview with Zadi Diaz of Epic Fu

Zadi Diaz is the co-founder, co-producer and host of Epic Fu, the online guide to what everyone is buzzing about on the web. Zadi is cool, funny, down to earth, and one of the most influential women on the net. But what is obvious is her beauty inside and out.

Here’s an interview with Zadi about makeup, childhood memories, and what she thinks is real beauty.

1.  Do you have a fond or strange memory involving makeup during childhood or teenage years? Do you think it’s shaped how you use or view makeup now?

I would have to say the my fondest childhood memory involving makeup would have to be watching my mother applying mascara and eyeliner. In my pre-school mind, it was a miracle she never blinked or poked her eye out. I think I may have thought she had magic, superhero eyes for a while.

I also remember getting to keep little samples of Avon lipstick when I was young, but I wouldn’t only apply it to my lips, I would also color with them. They smeared better on the page than crayons. I would apply them to my Barbie doll as well, then I would make her have hot and heavy make-out sessions with Ken. :)

I’m not sure how any of it shaped my view of makeup now, other than I think makeup is fun to play around with.

2.  Name 1 – 3 favorite makeup/beauty products you can’t live without.

The three beauty products that I can’t seem to live without is Smith’s Rosebud Salve – it’s the best lip balm ever and you can use it for any little dry area you may have – it’s magic. I also almost always carry my Mac eyeliner – specifically one called “buried treasure” it’s smoky black with a little bit of sparkle. The third beauty product I can’t live without is water. When I remember to hydrate I feel so much better inside and out.

3.  Do you have a bedtime beauty routine? Favorite nighttime ritual

The only bedtime beauty ritual I can think of is drinking green tea, brushing my teeth, washing my face and rubbing my hands with scented lotion. I love the scent of nice things as I fall asleep.

4. They say true beauty lies underneath. Name what characteristic about you or others that you think is beautiful. Something makeup can’t do.

The most beautiful thing in the world is a smile. It’s free, environmentally friendly, good for the heart and it’s super contagious. :)
