Real Beauty: Interview with Sarah Austin of Pop 17

Sarah Austin is a Manhattan-based entrepreneur and online lifecaster. She is the host of Pop 17 and is one of the most influential women on the net. But what is obvious is her beauty inside and out.

Here’s an interview with Sarah about makeup, childhood memories, and what she thinks is real beauty.

1.  Do you have a fond or strange memory involving makeup during childhood or teenage years? Do you think it’s shaped how you use or view makeup now?

My mom wouldn’t let my sisters and I wear makeup growing up. She did buy us Clinique bar soap though. The exception was on Halloween when we’d paint on fake beauty marks, lipstick and eyeliner.

2.  Name 1 – 3 favorite makeup/beauty products you can’t live without.

I like Clinique face soap because their products remind me of my mom and growing up.

Benefit has always been a personal favorite. They have this mascara called Bad Gal that’s fabulous. I grew up in Mill Valley, California, the home of Benefit cosmetics.

Mac cosmetics are always fun because they are dramatic. Their shimmer eye lid power is awesome. Plus, they give me discounts for being on camera for Pop17 (http://pop17.com) and wearing their products.

3.  Do you have a bedtime beauty routine? Favorite nighttime ritual:

I use lotion as make up remover by Ponds. I clean my face with Clean and Clear. Then I put lotion on it again, but by Clean and Clear.

4. They say true beauty lies underneath. Name what characteristic about you or others that you think is beautiful. Something makeup can’t do.

I smile all the time and others say I make them smile too. I like to be silly and have a good time.

I have a strong sense of altruism as a result of summer programs. You can find my name on the Presidents list awarded for contributing the most hours of community service. SummerSearch.org helped me realize this and bring it to fruition.
