Since the beginning of the internet, online romance has been a cliche we giggle about in office corridors, along with internet stalkers and pedophile stories (thanks MSNBC). We hear of Myspace marriages and Second Life dating, and think to ourselves, “No way am I doing that“. But, with the growth of social media, our personal involvement in the tech scene, and the evolution of the internet, the nagging stigma of online romance is quickly dying. In fact, I’d have to say when we refer to our “internet friends”, it’s no longer a chuckling matter. Relevance and value has been a focus for many of us in the social media scene, so relationships actually mean something here. Speaking of your ‘friends’ online should not incite a chuckle from the family these days.
So we’ve been hearing and experiencing the positive karma of using Twitter. Friendships, business relationships, and collaborations have developed because we connect and friend others on the microblogging tool. Endless books and guides have been written to tell others how to monetize on the magic that is Twitter, but to find love?
Is that possible?
Twitter allows a more intimate involvement in others lives and with current users of a more “quality” level, then YES, it’s possible. I asked some of my Tweeps if they had ever met their girlfriend/boyfriend or wife/husband on Twitter.

Michael Pilla @michaelpilla and Macala Wright @macala found love through Twitter. I hear their amazing and wierd story may be on Lalawag soon?

Meg Fowler @megfowler and Gradon Tripp @gradontripp have found love on Twitter as well. Their story can be read about in Meg and Gradon’s personal blogs.
And couples like these are finding love on Twitter, or because of Twitter!
@markdavidson proposes to @DaisyAvenue on Twitter
On Boing Boing – Tweethearts: blogger proposes to nerd girlfriend over Twitter, she tweets back acceptance
and now people are trying to monetize on Twitter Romance: MyTweetHeart.com
What do you think? Have a Twitter romance story you’d love to share with us?
